Rifugio Treviso

Route: difficult – EE. Approximately 1,200 m of elevation gain.
Walking time: 6 hours.
Map: Sheet 22 Tabacco – Pale di San Martino

Circular route to be avoided in bad weather or poor visibility conditions, as the descent from the mountain passes can become very challenging due to navigation difficulties.

The upper section of Forcella delle Mughe on the Val Canali side includes a few Grade I scrambling passages. In addition, the north-facing slopes of the mountain passes often remain snow-covered in places until mid-June.

From Rifugio Cavallera, follow Trail 777 uphill to the junction with Trail 718 below Forcella D’Oltro (possible shorter variant). Continuing for about 40 minutes, you will reach a signposted junction where you should take the trail on the right, which leads to Forcella Regade in about 10 minutes. From there, follow the trail that rejoins Trail 718 below Forcella delle Mughe and continues to Rifugio Treviso.
From Rifugio Treviso, begin the return journey along Trail 720 to Forcella delle Mughe, then continue descending on the same trail. Be sure to follow the trail markers that lead to the right just below the pass; if distracted, it is easy to continue straight down the gully, which soon becomes difficult to negotiate. After approximately 500 m of elevation loss, you will reach the area near Bivacco Menegazzi, and from there it is only a short walk back to Rifugio Cavallera.

A possible alternative is the short Via Ferrata del Canalone, which starts from Rifugio Treviso, climbs to higher ground, and rejoins Trail 720 a little further up.
