From Sarasin di Gosaldo - loc. Domadore
Along the CAI 720 path, taking the forest road for Malga Cavallera to the junction at Pra della Forca (difficulty: easy; 1.8 km for 350 metres of altitude difference). Leaving the junction with the path, it is also possible to continue along the forest road (difficulty: easy; 2.8 km for 350 metres of altitude difference): this route is recommended for the less well-trained, for those who wish to ascend by bicycle, on MTB or on horseback.
From Don (Gosaldo)
Take the path near the pharmacy, close to the bridge, on the right-hand side of the Gosalda stream. After a short climb, you will reach the trail that connects Pra della Forca with Sant’Andrea. Following it to the left leads to Pra della Forca, from where you can continue by following the signs. Turning right instead, you will reach the ruins at Margonola in about 5 minutes. Just before the ruins, take the path climbing to the left, marked by frequent red trail markers, until you reach a forest road. Turn right and continue to the next junction, then follow the signs from there.
From Sant'Andrea di Gosaldo
The forest road from Sant’Andrea via Cavallera is closed until September 30, 2026.From Sant'Andrea di Gosaldo along the forest road to the Malga Cavallera refuge (difficulty: easy; 3.7 km for 400 m difference in altitude). It is possible to ascend on foot, by mountain bike, on skis, with snowshoes and on horseback; if ascending with small children, it is preferable to use a child backpack.
Alternative path: (Difficulty: moderate, 4 km with 400 m of elevation gain): follow Via Margonola to its end, passing the ice-skating rink and taking the forest road that descends to the Gosalda stream. After crossing the stream, continue along the path for about 5 minutes to the ruins at Margonola. Just beyond the ruins, still on the right-hand side, take the trail marked by the “Don–Pian Lonch” arrow, climb across the meadow and continue along the clearly visible track through the woods. The entire route is marked with trail blazes of various colours. After about 15–20 minutes, the path emerges onto a forest road: turn right and continue to the next junction, then follow the signs from there.
From Passo Cereda (Padreterno)
Follow the forest road toward Mis, then follow the signs for Domadore and Rifugio Malga Cavallera to reach the locality of Domadore. From there, follow the directions of the first suggested route (difficulty: medium; 6.2 km with 500 m of elevation gain).
The same route can also be started from the forest road above Passo Cereda, passing the small chapel of Santa Rita.
From Passo Cereda via CAI trails 718–777 (difficulty: hiking; 7.4 km with 880 m of positive elevation gain).
From Rifugio Scarpa – Gurekian
Along CAI path no. 773 (difficulty: excursionist; 6.8 km for 270 m positive altitude difference).
From Rifugio Treviso in val Canali
Following CAI trail 718 to Forcella delle Mughe and then turning right onto trail 777 (difficulty: hiking; 4.6 km with 490 m of elevation gain).
Alternatively, the more direct and more demanding trail 720 can be followed (difficulty: EE – experienced hikers; 3.4 km with 650 m of elevation gain).
THE FOREST ROADS FROM DOMADORE, DON, AND SANT’ANDREA ARE NOT CLOSED BY BARRIERS, AS THEY SERVE LOCAL ACTIVITIES AND PRIVATE PROPERTIES. HOWEVER, THEY ARE FORESTRY AND PASTORAL ROADS, AND ACCESS BY MOTOR VEHICLES IS PROHIBITED UNLESS AUTHORIZED BY A PERMIT ISSUED BY THE MUNICIPALITY OF GOSALDO.
